PET/CT– Patient Preparation and Instructions
All Patients
- Please ear warm, loose-fitting clothing.
- Please notify the staff at our office if you might be pregnant
Non-Diabetic Patients
- No food for 6 hours prior to appointment (including gum, breath mints, cough drops, hard candy or anything that may contain sugar).
- We recommend that you follow a high protein, low carbohydrate diet for 24 hours prior to the test to increase the quality of your PET images
- You are encouraged to drink as much water as you like.
- All medications should be taken as directed by your physician, as long as they are tolerated on an empty stomach
- No strenuous exercising 24 hours prior to your appointment
Diabetic Patients
- Diabetic patients on insulin or oral medication should not take their medication on the day of the exam.
- Please have an early dinner and take your regular dose of medication at night
- Diabetic patients will be scheduled for their appointment in the morning.
- Do not have any type of fatty or high carbohydrate meals the day before your exam.
- NO late meals or snacks
- Please drink plenty of water the day prior to your exam
